Blueberry Craze

blueberries

For good reason there is a craze about the benefits of eating blueberries, not only are they delicious but they are good for you too.  Now we are not talking lots of blueberry muffins to get your healthy fill on blueberries.  We are talking about eating a cup of blueberries a day or several times a week; or even throwing a cup of fresh blueberries in a blender with skim milk and nonfat plain yogurt.  Now you might be thinking, let’s get to the facts, what are the benefits to eating all these blueberries.

Many benefits are related to cognitive functions improving such as improving your memory and postponing the effects of aging that usually attack the cognitive functions.  We enjoy being able to remember the little things in life and of course the big things in life so memory is an important part to your health.

Blueberries are also great for the digestive track; they help keep our system working and cleaning it out when needed.  This has a lot to do with the skins of the blueberry being it is high in fiber, which then also aides in keeping your heart healthy.  Blueberries are known for their defense against heart disease, now that’s not saying that you can have a cup of blueberries every day and then follow that up with two hotdogs, a steak and a cheeseburger.  They are just part of the equation.

Blueberries are also known for their high antioxidants, where they defend against the free radicals that occur in our body.  Antioxidants are the fighters for our cells, to keep them healthy.    Incorporating more blueberries into your diet is very beneficial.  Here are a few ways you can do so on a regular basis; by adding some to your whole grain cereals, using them in smoothies, mixing these with your nonfat plain yogurt in the morning, or to even make a blueberry sauce to put over your buckwheat pancakes.  Look to h3daily.com for recipes on incorporating more blueberries into your everyday diet.
